Draco pressed his eye to the site of his gun and took his aim. His arm was steady, his eyes unblinking as he centered his gun on his target. The messy, black-haired head wasn’t turned away from him, the way he usually liked it. Instead, Draco had decided to watch this death, when he’d avoided the others. This one was different.

Just as it had since he’d gotten this assignment, Draco’s heart had ached. It had hurt more than he thought it should, having to do this, but he wasn’t the best in the business for nothing. The man in front of him had always represented unfailing vitality to him, had always beat all odds. But not this time and some part of Draco regretted this. He pulled his hands away to wipe off his sweaty palms, something that had never happened before. But this wasn’t the usual job.

Safety off. Gaze steady. A deep breath, and then trigger pulled.

No going back now.
